Construction by the main contractor, Laing O’Rourke, commenced during the summer of 2017. The hospital is due to be completed by the autumn of 2020 and receive the first patients during the spring of 2021.

The 560 bed (including trolleys and cots), 55,000m2 new build hospital will provide complex specialist and critical care treatment for over 600,000 people in South-East Wales, and include a 24-hour emergency department and assessment unit, dealing with emergencies and resuscitation cases, and will have a broad range of diagnostic services, operating theatres, and a consultant-led obstetric unit

Auxilium worked closely with the main contractor, CHt and the other members of the design team to provide a fully coordinated M&E services Building Information Model.

This was then further developed to provide offsite prefabrication information (DfMA) to allow CHt to prefabricate the services at their manufacturing facility. This included corridor distribution modules, plant skids and plant room valve assemblies. The project is currently ahead of schedule and within budget.

A state-of-the-art mental health unit which aims to give patients a “modern, therapeutic and recovery-focused environment” serving South Wales.

Hafan y Coed, which is based at the University Hospital Llandough site, has been described as a first-class facility which will help create a calm and relaxed atmosphere for patients.

The new hospital includes access to a variety of “therapeutic spaces” including garden areas, gym facilities, outdoor fitness equipment, and a multi-use games area to enhance recovery for patients during their stay.

This included corridor distribution modules, plant skids and fully constructed plant rooms. Auxilium successfully produced DfMA drawings for the largest plant rooms undertaken by CHt to date. The project was delivered ahead of schedule and within budget.
