Addingtons Special Education Needs School - Reading

This £13.5m special education needs school in Wokingham allows 203 pupils, aged from three to 19 years old, to benefit from a hydrotherapy and sensory pool, multi-sensory suites, a gym, football pitch, specialist science, art, music, ICT and drama classrooms and physiotherapy, speech and language and medical areas.

The new building consists of two floors and a roof top plant area.  Auxilium provided a full turnkey consultancy package for our client Crown House Technologies.  This included a full architectural 3D model of the building structure to form the basis of the mechanical, electrical and public health design.

The systems included intelligent lighting, LV power, mixed mode ventilation, underfloor heating, air conditioning, pool hall ventilation, public health services, open protocol BMS, CCTV, access control, fire alarm, external lighting, HV power & utilities.

Upon completion of our design we produced fully coordinated 3D models of the building services which we then developed into fully dimensioned working drawings.  This process produced significant savings in time and greater levels of cost certainty.  Trades were able to work independently due to the coordination information provided to them.  This process was critical due to restricted ceiling voids as low as 300mm in places.

Radstock Schools - Bath

As part of a rationalisation of primary education in Radstock, B&NES Council procured two new primary schools to replace four existing schools. Auxilium provided the complete engineering design for the two schools under a design and construct partnering contract, the first to be awarded by the Council.

The schools are designed to make a positive educational link with their environments, one located on a hill and one in a river valley. The buildings were largely prefabricated using a common, modular system of timber framing for programme efficiency and environmental sustainability. Nevertheless each has a distinctly individual character due to careful consideration of the layout and links to the external environment.

The buildings are also super-insulated, naturally ventilated and daylit with very low energy consumption in use. The schools have proved hugely popular with the children, teachers and parents alike, engendering a new sense of civic pride in a deprived community.
