BBC Cymru Wales HQ - Cardiff

The new 150,000ft² BBC Cymru Wales headquarters building, which will accommodate 1,200 staff, is located at Central Square – at the north entrance to Cardiff Central train station.

The impressive building has been designed by world leading architectural firm Foster + Partners. Central Square, which eventually will see up to one million ft² of new office, retail and residential space, is being developed by Cardiff-based property development firm Rightacres Property.

Auxilium have worked in partnership with Evans Electrical Ltd and ISG, providing 3D BIM coordination services for the shell and core, and fit out electrical installation for the project.

Unique to this building is the installation of 2No. D.R.U.P.S units – Diesel rotary uninterruptible power supply devices which can power the whole building fully loaded for four days and nights.

The Paragon - Bristol

The Paragon development is a prestigious new headquarters building totalling 76,000ft², in Victoria Street, Bristol with typical floor plates of 14,000ft². The high quality city centre office building is finished to a grade A standard over ground and five upper floors. Design and specification is to a high level of sustainability and is reflected in the current BREAM excellent rating.

Auxilium provided a full turnkey consultancy package for our client Crown House Technologies. This included a full architectural 3D model of the building structure to form the basis of the mechanical, electrical and public health design.

The systems included intelligent lighting, flexible power, fan coil air conditioning, underfloor heating, ventilation, public health services, open protocol BMS, CCTV, access control, fire alarm, car park ventilation, HV power & utilities.

Upon completion of our design we produced fully coordinated 3D models of the building services which we then developed into fully dimensioned working drawings.  Auxilium also produced fabrication drawings on behalf of our clients’ ductwork subcontractor.  This process produced significant savings in time and greater levels of cost certainty.  Trades were able to work independently due to the coordination information provided to them

Next Generation Data

Set on a 120-acre business park with a 750,000sq ft main building, NGD Europe is the continent’s largest Data Centre campus.  NGD Europe was originally the FAB building, part of the Hynix semiconductor facility. Built for the Korean electronics company LG, it comprised three buildings with an area totalling some 116,000m2 served by a direct primary electricity substation with up to 180MVA of power. Constructed to US Federal standards, the FAB building is earthquake-proof and is connected to power, water and telecommunications supplies.

The FAB was designed as a three-level ‘ballroom’ semiconductor manufacturing facility, with a structure consisting of a steel frame clad in lightweight insulated panels and a glazed frontage.

The ground floor covers an area of around 22,500m2 divided into a front office space of 5,000m2, plant wings of 6,100m2 to accommodate plant equipment, and a central specialist area of 11,300m2.  The first floor has an identical layout, delivering a further 22,500m2 of space. The second floor was designed as a clean room for wafer manufacture and as such offers an open area of 11,300m2 completely clear of columns. Adjacent to the second floor is a mezzanine, adding another 2,800m2.
